Selection of the most important crops

In the selection of the list of most important crops is not only the current situation taken into account but also the future opportunities.

The production of sugarbeat is not so important as there is only one factory that can process the sugarbeat.

At present the production of patatoes is low due to the lack of irrigation but it should be considered as an important crop for Somogy.

The production of sunflowers has become low due to the low price on the market. On the other hand is sunflower not so sensitive for the soil and weather conditions.

The production of rape seat is interesting because it is an early crop and it opens the possibilities to plant winter wheat after the harvesting. It is also interesting for the nitrogen in the soil.

In general in Somogy it is not possible to have two crops in one season because of the fact that during summer, the young crops can not grow due to the in general dry weather conditions.

In general, all the land that is not used for agriculture and that is not forest or lake is grassland. About 60% is productive and the other 40% is for protection of the soil. In the future it is expected to become more important due to nature development.
